Fiorentina does not want to relive the nightmare of its 2025-26 season: the Tuscan club, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, terminated the contract of its coach Fabio Grosso on Sunday after only three days of the Italian Championship which ended in as many defeats.
“Fiorentina announces that it has relieved Fabio Grosso of his duties as coach of its first team this Sunday,” the Serie A club announced in a brief press release.
The former Italian international, member of the Italian team crowned world champion in 2006, arrived in Florence at the beginning of June from Sassuolo. Under his leadership, the Viola, bottom of the championship, has not pocketed any points in three days and remains with two defeats at home, against the promoted Frosinone (3-0) at the end of August and against Torino (2-1) on Saturday.
Grosso, 48, had already had an experience cut short quickly, in 2023 at the head of Olympique Lyonnais where he only stayed three months, between September and November 2023. He was dismissed after only seven matches (one victory). He also led FC Sion for 25 matches between August 2020 and March 2021
Fiorentina experienced a catastrophic 2025-26 season under the direction of Stefano Pioli then Paolo Vanoli, dismissed at the end of May after having nevertheless ensured their maintenance in Serie A (15th).
