The Trump administration will remove caps on polluting emissions from coal and gas power plants, reversing decarbonization rules set in 2024 under the presidency of Joe Biden, according to several American media.
The head of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Lee Zeldin, is expected to make the announcement on Monday during a meeting of G20 energy ministers in Houston (Texas), report the “New York Times” and Bloomberg citing sources familiar with the matter.
According to the Times, power plants would still be subject to certain limitations regarding mercury, arsenic and other contaminants.
Coal is the fuel that emits the highest levels of greenhouse gases contributing to global warming.

Since his return to the White House in January 2025, his administration has increased measures in favor of fossil fuels, notably by relaxing several polluting emissions standards.
At the beginning of the year, it also repealed the text serving as the basis for the fight against greenhouse gas emissions in the United States.
