Three members of the same family were found dead on Monday in their apartment in the Pietralata district of Rome. The bodies of the father, aged 42, the mother, 41, and their 5-year-old daughter, disabled, were in a room. All had gunshot wounds, according to several Italian media.
The alert was given around 1 p.m. by a relative who, worried about no longer being able to contact the family, requested emergency services to intervene. The firefighters forced the door of the accommodation before discovering the three victims. The family dog was also found dead, with injuries consistent with gunshots.
The exact circumstances of the tragedy remain to be established. The main hypothesis being examined is that of a homicide-suicide, but investigators are still trying to determine who used the weapon. According to the first elements reported by RomaToday, the pistol found was legally owned by the father.
Several messages discovered in the apartment could support the suggestion of a premeditated act. However, their perpetrator had not yet been identified as of Monday afternoon and checks were underway. The carabinieri made observations on site and are continuing their investigations to reconstruct the family’s last hours.
The father worked as a computer technician. Little information was immediately available on his wife’s professional activity. Their daughter was born during the Covid-19 pandemic.
