Selena Gomez finds herself at the heart of a legal battle around Wondermind, the platform dedicated to mental well-being that she co-founded in 2021 with her mother, Mandy Teefey. Five investors accuse the singer and other managers of the company of having misled them about the health and prospects of the company, reports TMZ, cited by “Le Parisien”.
The plaintiffs claim to have injected a total of $1.2 million into Wondermind in 2022. They were counting in particular on the involvement of Selena Gomez and her extraordinary media impact: the star has more than 404 million subscribers on Instagram.
According to the complaint, investors received a much too flattering image of the company. They claim they were kept in the dark while Wondermind encountered significant difficulties. For three years, they accuse, the founders and managers did not provide them with any information on the deterioration of the situation.
Prestigious partnerships that remained a dead letter
Wondermind was valued at $95 million in 2022. Investors say they were attracted by the prospect of partnerships with large companies, including JPMorgan, but also by advertising projects, covers with celebrities and the development of an application presented as innovative.
According to them, these promises remained a dead letter. “Partnerships never existed. The initiatives never materialized. The application was never developed,” they claim in their complaint.
Selena Gomez, her mother and their former associate Daniella Pierson are notably being prosecuted for fraud and breach of contract, according to the documents cited. The five plaintiffs are demanding reimbursement of their investments as well as damages and payment of their legal fees.
Tensions revealed from 2025
Wondermind’s internal difficulties had already been exposed in 2025 by an investigation by the American media The Cut. This reported power struggles and strained relationships within the company, particularly between Selena Gomez and her mother.
Employees interviewed claimed that the singer rarely came to the offices and that she sometimes had to be approached several times before she promoted Wondermind on her social networks. Mandy Teefey was also questioned by certain employees for her management and her prolonged absences.
The investors claim to have discovered the extent of the company’s difficulties thanks to this investigation, even though their money had been invested for several years.
At this point, Selena Gomez, Mandy Teefey and Wondermind have not publicly reacted to this procedure. The accusations made by the investors remain to be established in court.
