Spanish star singer Rosalia faces controversy in Argentina after sharing a post on the Albiceleste’s defeat in the World Cup final which sparked strong reactions, a few days before her concerts in Buenos Aires.
His sharing of a TikTok video of Lebanese-American actress Mia Khalifa – in which the latter celebrated Spain’s victory with the message “How life resonates now that the +perlas+ have been defeated”, to the sound of the song “La Perla” by Rosalia – was seen as an affront in Argentina.
In Spanish, “perla” is a colloquialism for a conflicted or distressing person.
After deleting the post, Rosalia issued an apology on Instagram on Wednesday, explaining that she had shared the video without really knowing “what she was saying.” “I have nothing but love for Argentina,” she assured.
A little over a week before the first of four concerts of his “Lux Tour” in Buenos Aires, all sold out, certain messages on social networks claim to want to boycott the artist.
“What if we asked for a refund of the tickets?”, “I returned the tickets that I had bought for my nieces, they decided on their own not to go see you (…) you have greatly disappointed your Argentine public” or even the mention “in the process of returning the tickets” appear among the comments under the Spanish artist’s latest publication.
Sources within the organization of the concerts in Buenos Aires told AFP that the number of refund requests is insignificant compared to the 50,000 seats sold.
On the other hand, a symphony concert in tribute to Rosalia, which was to be held on Thursday in a museum in the province of Córdoba (center), was canceled. The organizers explained in a press release that they had received “numerous hate messages”.
