American-British masculinist influencer Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan are in police custody in the United States, after their arrest on Saturday in Miami, at the request of the United Kingdom which is demanding their extradition for alleged rape.
They were arrested by the US Marshals, a US federal police service responsible for tracking down fugitives and enforcing court orders.
The American news site TMZ published a video showing officers handcuffing Andrew Tate and his brother, then escorting them to vehicles.
“They are currently in police custody awaiting further legal proceedings,” said Karena Thomas, a senior police officer in Bedfordshire, who covers the brothers’ hometown of Luton, north of London, on Sunday.
The British prosecutor’s office announced in a press release that the arrest of the Tate brothers took place at the request of the United Kingdom, which claims them for a total of 59 charges (42 for Andrew and 17 for Tristan) including rape, assault and other offenses of a sexual and child crime nature.
Andrew Tate, 39, and his brother Tristan, 38, are wanted in the United Kingdom for “rape, complicity in sexual exploitation and offenses relating to indecent images of a child,” said a prosecutor, Malcolm McHaffie, in this press release, adding that there are to date seven alleged victims.
The events allegedly took place between July 2010 and August 2017.
The case in the United Kingdom is not new. A first police investigation, started on allegations dating back to 2012 and with three complainants, led the prosecution to bring 21 charges against the two brothers in 2024. The investigation continued, integrating four additional alleged victims and 38 additional charges, for a total of 59.
The Tate brothers’ lawyer, Joseph McBride, said in a statement that his clients “are innocent,” called their testimony a “political stunt,” and expressed confidence that they would be released soon.

This declared supporter of American President Donald Trump, who calls himself “Top G” or “Cobra” on the internet, was banned from Instagram and TikTok after very aggressive misogynistic comments.
He and his brother were incarcerated for a few months in Romania, where they lived for several years and were accused of duping several women for sexual exploitation, including minors, before being allowed to leave the country.
Earlier this year, police in Hertfordshire, north of London, announced they were reopening an investigation into accusations of rape and sexual assault made by several women against Andrew Tate between 2014 and 2015.
The Tate brothers are also accused of tax evasion and money laundering in the United Kingdom.
“Andrew and Tristan Tate are charged with some of the most serious crimes, including multiple counts of rape and human trafficking. It is time for them to be brought to justice,” responded Matt Jury, the lawyer for four alleged victims.
The latter “have been fighting for years (…) and today I urge the authorities to ensure that this matter is dealt with as quickly as possible,” he added, quoted by the British agency PA.
