Freedom District Lions Club annual education night provides scholarship funding for students in Carroll County

The May 11, 2022 meeting of the Freedom District Lions Club (FDLC) was their annual education night.  Lion Matt King, the service club’s 1st Vice President and Chairman of the Educational Service Committee presided over the dinner meeting held in Celebration Hall, Messiah Lutheran Church in Barrett.  Lion King gave an overview of the workings of the Educational Services Committee and recognized its members.  One of the biggest activities of the committee is to handle the annual scholarship program for the club.  This year, a $2,000 scholarship was presented to a graduating senior from Century High School and one from Liberty High School.  A $2,000 scholarship was also given to the Carroll Community College Foundation to be awarded to a Liberty or Century high school graduate they determine needs the money to complete their education at the college.  Lion King said the FDLC received many applications from outstanding applicants and he was proud to introduce the recipient from each high school.  He introduced Caroline Bacon, the recipient from Liberty High School and Juliana Lopez, the recipient from Century High School.  Each recipient gave a brief talk.  Ms Bacon will be attending the University of Maryland, College Park and Ms Lopez will attend Towson University.
