Melania Trump will “personally bring together representatives of Russia and Ukraine at the White House,” the Office of the First Lady of the United States announced in a press release on Tuesday.

“This event represents an extraordinary moment in American history,” continues the press release, published on the day of the midterm elections, crucial for Donald Trump’s last two years in the White House.

However, no details were given on the composition of the delegations or on the modalities of the meeting, but Melania Trump is due to speak on Thursday morning, according to this press release.

This announcement follows the recent humanitarian truce in the Russian-controlled Ukrainian region of Kherson, negotiated at the initiative of Donald Trump’s wife, according to Washington.

The truce observed last week allowed the evacuation of some of the inhabitants of Olechky, a town under Russian control located about ten kilometers southeast of Kherson, which was facing serious shortages of food and medicine due to the fighting.

Russia has resumed bombing in this region of southern Ukraine.

Negotiations between kyiv and Moscow, under American mediation, to try to end nearly five years of this bloody conflict are due to resume in a week in the United Arab Emirates.

Ukraine was again bombed during the night from Monday to Tuesday by Russia, the day after a Russian attack which killed at least 29 people and was strongly denounced by Volodymyr Zelensky, who arrived in Berlin on Tuesday.

According to the Ukrainian leader, this bloody attack illustrated Russia’s desire to torpedo any “progress towards peace”.
