Why has Meghan Markle always refused to let her father meet her children? After years of family estrangement and media speculation, Prince Harry’s wife has just given an explanation.
In a statement sent to the American magazine “People”, the Duchess of Sussex claims that her decision to keep Thomas Markle at bay was motivated by a single concern: the safety of her children, Archie and Lilibet.
“I hope it will now be understood that, despite the distortions in some media over the years, my estrangement from my father and my decision not to allow him to have contact with our children had only one reason: to protect them,” she says.
Meghan claims to have been alerted in 2018
This speech comes after the revelations of the British tabloid “The Sun”. According to the latter, Thomas Markle, 82, is suspected of possessing child pornography images.
The accusations come from her son, Thomas Markle Jr., Meghan’s half-brother. He claims to have discovered hundreds, if not thousands, of suspicious files at his father’s home in Cebu, Philippines. He said he alerted local authorities as well as the FBI.
According to Meghan Markle, accusations concerning her father were reported in 2018 to the London police and the royal family’s protective services. She claims to have received a copy of the letter and to have been informed that these reports were subject to verification.
Now aged 45, Meghan says she is particularly affected by the new accusations. “I am deeply distressed by the information that has come to light over the past 24 hours, and my thoughts are with all the children who may have been victims,” she told “People.” She now hopes that justice will be able to shed light on this matter and that the protection of children will remain the priority of the authorities.
Contested accusations
At this point, Thomas Markle has not been arrested or charged. Philippine authorities have not publicly confirmed the opening of an investigation and the person concerned has not commented on the accusations.
His daughter Samantha Markle, Meghan’s half-sister, categorically rejects her brother’s claims. She calls them lies and accuses him of wanting to harm their father for financial reasons, without providing any evidence to support this accusation.
According to “The Sun”, the FBI has confirmed having received an affidavit from Thomas Markle Jr.
