Argentine President Javier Milei on Tuesday strongly criticized the socialist Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, whom he described as a “dictator” during a visit to Madrid during which he must show his support for the right-wing and far-right opposition in the run-up to the legislative elections.
“Spain was able to welcome hundreds of thousands of Argentines who were fleeing poverty and the absence of a future, the fruits of the sinister socialism of the 21st century that you regularly suffer with the infrequent dictator Pedro Sánchez,” he said during a speech given at an economic forum.
“Kicked out”
The 55-year-old ultraliberal leader also described the head of the Spanish government as a “thief” and a “corrupt” leader. In his speech, Javier Milei called on the Spaniards to “kick the socialists out”, a little less than six weeks before the early legislative elections of November 29, with a very uncertain outcome.
The Argentine president strongly attacked the “left parties” in Europe, accusing them of being “primarily responsible” for economic “stagnation” on the Old Continent. On immigration, the Argentine president accused the left-wing government of Pedro Sánchez of encouraging, for electoral reasons, a migratory “invasion”, taking in particular the example of the enclave of Ceuta, and expressing his “great concern”.
“A path of decadence”
“Economic stagnation, combined with migratory irresponsibility, traces a path of decadence that is very difficult to reverse for the future,” he said. During his visit to Madrid, the Argentine president is scheduled to meet leaders of the far-right Vox party and the right-wing leader of the Madrid region Isabel Díaz Ayuso.
“I am clearly friends with (Vox leader) Santiago Abascal and friends with Isabel Díaz Ayuso, and I think they have healthy and positive ideas to get Spain out of decadence,” he explained. Since coming to power in Buenos Aires at the end of 2023, the ultraliberal leader has made several trips to Spain, often appearing with the Spanish far right.
Shortly before the start of Javier Milei’s speech, Pedro Sánchez published a short video on
