The Omani co-pilot of the flydubai flight to Tel Aviv, who attacked the pilot causing an emergency landing at the end of September in Saudi Arabia, was planning a suicide attack on Ben Gurion airport, the United Arab Emirates prosecutor said on Friday.
This co-pilot was inspired by the September 11 attacks, and “claimed to have acted alone, without the involvement of other people”, indicated the Emirati Attorney General, Hamad Saif Al Shamsi in a press release, adding that the investigation was continuing “in order to verify this assertion”.
He adds that the suspect, who attacked the pilot, causing an emergency landing at the end of September in Saudi Arabia, met all the security requirements required when he was hired.
“He met the professional and safety conditions required for employment, such as holding a pilot’s license, presenting a certificate of good conduct and submitting to the required checks,” said Hamad Saif Al Shamsi. “None of these procedures revealed any evidence suggesting his extremist views,” he added.
