You will have noticed that I say “our delicious friends” and not “our delicious friends”, because, in fact, there are only guys. It’s not being feminist to point out that we’re in a sort of digital cock competition. It seems to me that when you spend your life trying to control humanity, building oblong cars or rockets, amassing as much money as you can and getting into bloating, aiming for immortality and dreaming of a world where everything just works when you press weis that there is, perhaps, possibly, a small, basely human problem of a locker room complex. It’s obviously Freudian psycho-psy with two bullets, but who cares, a bit of natural stupidity in this ocean of artificial intelligence, it lets off steam.
Brief.
Suddenly, they are talking about “existential risks for humanity”. In other words: mistake, if we let the thing go, we’ll all die. Oh well yes, that would be nerd. And these gentlemen are calling for a slowdown, or even, let’s be crazy, for something like regulation. And they announce to us, with open lips, with lots of photos, under the satisfied eye of CQCO (Concours de Quéquettes Chef Officer) Donald Trump, that they have adopted a code of good conduct on a voluntary basis. Rest assured, in their “code of conduct”, nothing is binding, don’t mess around. It is, I quote the American president: “morally compelling”. Mwoohahahahahahaha. Asking Californian technofascist moguls for regulations based on morality is like entrusting sex education to Patrick Bruel in the Orientation Cycle; it might not do it.
Their “moral” practice consists of making something because they have identified the technical possibility. And above all because it is likely to bring in a lot of money. For example, we invented Meta glasses, which make it possible to film people in scred. A piece of crap that we don’t even understand how it’s legally possible to put it on the market. Already called “pervert glasses” on the other side of the Atlantic. When they are equipped with facial recognition software, any street hack will have more power over you than the police. And alas, sales are exploding, which reassures us of the extent of the aforementioned natural stupidity. According to a recent study by Digitec Galaxus, sales have quadrupled in one year and, unsurprisingly, 87% of buyers are… buyers, and not buyers. I doubt it is for professional use (feminazi sigh again).
But above all, they have developed generative AI, these charming toddlers. Without thinking for a second about the possible consequences and implications, because for that you would need notions of philosophy, anthropology, sociology or, sorry for the big word: ethics.
And suddenly, oops.
The creature escapes its creator. It’s a story as old as Golem. Like Frankenstein. Damn, it would be a matter of warning people. We don’t care, with our billions we will get by, even if our jobs are replaced by AI. And then we are smart, we send our children to schools without screens, and we arrange to have the data centers necessary for the destruction of humanity built among the bumpkins and not in front of our infinity pools. Oh yes, and above all we want to keep control of any regulations. Well yes, we are not going to let things like laws be imposed on us, by democratically elected people, all the same. And at worst we’ll end up on Mars.
But if only you could go there right now. By car Simone! See you on the bus! See you tomorrow on the train! And now a new expression: at the end of the year in the rocket!
