Blond hair, blue eyes and a devastating smile. Since her debut in the series “Euphoria”, Sydney Sweeney has been regularly compared to Marilyn Monroe, one of the greatest icons of Hollywood cinema. And this physical resemblance would not be the result of chance. The two actresses are said to be related!
This is what the director of MyHeritage revealed to the American magazine “Entertainment Weekly”, based on a genealogical study carried out by its DNA testing platform. According to this research, Sydney Sweeney and Marilyn Monroe are distant cousins. Their family trees would come together in the 17th century, with a common ancestor: Ezra Perry, who lived in Sandwich, Massachusetts.
This astonishing discovery was made possible thanks to research carried out on the paternal branches of the two actresses. The link would thus go through Steven Sweeney, Sydney’s father, and Charles Stanley Gifford, Marilyn Monroe’s biological father.
An admiration for Marilyn Monroe
The 29-year-old star, who recently sparked controversy for appearing almost naked in a sports betting ad, has never hidden her admiration for the Hollywood icon. She has also taken inspiration from his clothing style on several occasions.
Last February, during the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, Sydney Sweeney notably wore an ivory dress by Ceil Chapman, almost identical to the one worn by Marilyn Monroe on the cover of “Life” magazine in 1952.
A few months earlier, at the premiere of the film “The Maid”, she had also chosen a white dress reminiscent of Marilyn Monroe’s famous scene above a subway entrance in “Seven Years of Reflection”.
The resemblance between the two actresses is therefore not limited to their physical appearance. It is also found in their clothing choices. And now, in their family tree.
