Annoyed, Trump calls it a “shameful and embarrassing decision”

Like last year, Donald Trump was outraged Friday at not having received the Nobel Peace Prize, saying that he had “never heard of” the winner announced earlier in the day, Navi Pillay. “The United States, represented by myself, your president, should have received the Nobel Peace Prize, but that was not the case,” the American president said during a meeting in Syracuse (north-east).

“This is an indelible stain on Norway and the people who made this shameful and embarrassing decision. The Nobel Peace Prize has been forever discredited by a handful of radical ideologues who are against democracy and who are in reality enemies of civilization,” he said.

The 80-year-old Republican, who launched a war against Iran and had former Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro captured by US special forces, once again assured that he deserved the distinction for having settled eight conflicts, a largely fanciful figure. Last year, the leader of the Venezuelan opposition, Maria Corina Machado, won the Nobel Peace Prize and then gave her gold medal to Donald Trump, much to the latter’s satisfaction.

This did not prevent the Republican leader from subsequently dealing in Venezuela with Delcy Rodriguez, former vice-president of deposed leader Nicolas Maduro. Donald Trump partly consoled himself by becoming the first winner of a FIFA peace prize in December 2025, an award which drew many jeers from his opponents.
