After the bad news announced about their star player Erik Brännström (editor’s note: absent six to eight weeks), the Lions were able to celebrate the return of Antti Suomela to welcome the Bienne players.
In a great atmosphere, the first third was very balanced with penalties on both sides but also a goal for each team, first by Jason Fuchs then by Mark Sever.
The second third, on the other hand, got off to a flying start and Lausanne gave itself a big scare by conceding two goals in ninety seconds before launching a solid comeback, ending the middle period with a score of 3-3.
Four points for Suomela
For the final third, it was initially the indiscipline which made the ice vibrate but Bienne started a little cold spell by taking the lead again thanks to Victor Söderström. Stung, the Lions came back in fourteen seconds with a second goal from Antti Oksanen in this game. Affected, the Biennes conceded two penalties in quick succession and it was the start of the demonstration for the Vaudois who gained momentum to win 7-4, with three assists and a goal for Antti Suomela who celebrated his return from injury in the best possible way.
On the other rinks, Friborg won on the road to Kloten (1-4) while Ajoie lost 3-1 in Davos. Between Bern and Geneva, it was the penalties which had to decide between the two teams. We were able to witness a surreal scene with Robert Mayer who had a tense explanation with a referee and received a penalty, served by a hilarious Tristan Lemyre. Jimmy Vesey’s goal was enough for the Eagles to win with a final score of 3-2 in front of the furious Bernese.
