Suspected of drug possession, three French influencers were arrested and taken into police custody in Dubai. If they are found guilty, they face a very big risk.
The arrest for “possession and consumption of a narcotic product” took place on Tuesday, September 22, revealed BFMTV. Two of the people incriminated are highly publicized. This is Océane El Himer, who participated in the reality TV program “Les Marseillais” and has more than a million subscribers on Instagram. Then Léa Mary, also a former candidate for this type of program, (“The Princes and Princesses of Love”), followed by more than 2 million people on Instagram.
According to French celebrity blogger Aqababe, one of the first to speak about the arrests on social networks, a third influencer, Amirrlife, content creator, was also arrested.
Information confirmed by BFMTV this Wednesday. “The Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs was informed of the arrest of three French nationals yesterday in Dubai,” a diplomatic source told our colleagues.
French media explain that drug-related penalties are particularly harsh in the United Arab Emirates. The consumption or possession of narcotics, “regardless of the quantity held” is punishable by “a minimum sentence” of two years in prison. And much more in the event of trafficking or repeat offenses.
The “Dauphiné” adds that police custody can be extended up to 15 days in the United Arab Emirates. Then, if the procedure continues, a ban on leaving the territory may be imposed, with confiscation of the passport.
It is specified that the circumstances which led to these arrests remain unclear for the moment. According to some, the three French people tested positive for narcotics during a check during an evening, with the discovery of 20 grams of cocaine and ecstasy.
However, this is not confirmed at this stage. The authorities of the United Arab Emirates have not communicated on this matter and Océane El Himer, Léa Mary and Amirrlife or their entourage have not spoken publicly.
