Returning to the San Sebastian Festival for the first time since 2009, American superstar Brad Pitt spoke to journalists on Wednesday about the “moving experience” shared with the German shepherd Uber, his partner on the set of his latest film, “Heart of the Beast”.
“I had a really moving experience with Uber, who plays Odin and who our dog trainer found in New Zealand. We quickly became attached to each other,” declared the American, who came for the last time to the festival in northern Spain to defend “Inglourious Basterds” by Quentin Tarantino.
“We tried to make every day a game day for him. There were moments where he did simply incredible things, which were not planned in the script and which we see in the film. And then his expressions… They still touch me deeply. His close-ups, in particular, really moved me,” he continued.
Survive in untamed nature
Brad Pitt is the lead actor and producer of “Heart of the Beast,” in which he plays a retired U.S. Special Forces officer who travels to Alaska with his fighting dog Odin in search of inner peace. When the small plane they are traveling in crashes, the two try to survive in the untamable wilderness.
“I obviously love this movie, and for it to come out at this time,” Brad Pitt continued. “Because, yes, it’s a story of survival, but deep down, at the end of the day, it’s a story of love.”
“And personally, I think we could spend more time focusing on what we have in common(…), what unites us, what connects us(…), maybe just start by taking care of the people around us and making sure they are okay,” he added.
“Heart of the beast” is presented in San Sebastian in the out-of-competition category.
In total, 17 films compete in the official selection between September 18 and 26 among 263 scheduled works, including “Les Misérables”, a new adaptation of Victor Hugo’s novel by Fred Cavayé, with Vincent Lindon in the role of Jean Valjean.
