Accused of rape by women he met via applications and recorded without their knowledge in order to “prove their consent”, a 34-year-old man appears from Monday before the Gironde Assize Court.
On October 26, 2021, a complaint was filed against the man who was then on parole: for a year, he had been released from prison after being convicted in a previous rape case in Haute-Garonne.
The day before, this native of Toulouse arranged to meet a young woman, with whom he had been talking for three weeks, in a supermarket parking lot in the Bordeaux region. From there, they reach a dead end where the seducer suddenly changes his behavior.
In front of the gendarmes, the victim recounts that he violently imposed fellatio on her, then vaginal penetration face down, showing her photos of little girls then the video of a man who appears to be raping a female corpse, while tightly squeezing her neck and threatening to kill her if she does not obey his orders.
After other forced acts, during which the man spoke to her about the “rape fantasy,” the young woman was taken back to her vehicle and allowed to leave. She filed a complaint the next day.
Video surveillance of the parking lot made it possible to arrest the suspect the next day. He immediately assures that this relationship was “consensual”, specifying that he recorded their exchanges on the dictaphone as “proof”. “Given my criminal record, I wanted to be sure that there was no ambiguity in my attitude,” he declared in police custody.
The exploitation of the telephone has revealed around a hundred audio files of a sexual nature since September 2020, a month after his release.
Spitting and insults
The suspect assures that all these recorded reports were also consented to, even if investigators heard several women express their opposition by listening to the files.
A judicial investigation is opened, the thirty-year-old indicted and placed in pre-trial detention. The identification of 13 other women allowed them to be interviewed and nine denounced violence.
In front of the gendarmes, they evoke a “psychopath’s look”, a “raw, wild” relationship with spitting in the face and forced sodomy, insults and strangulation, viewing of photos of little girls, incitement to drink and vomiting. One, filmed, thinks she was drugged.
At the end of the procedure, the accused was referred to the Assize Court for seven rapes and three sexual assaults. As a repeat offender, he faces 30 years in prison. Four of the ten victims became civil parties.
The trial, initially scheduled for November 2025, was postponed after the accused, whose name was leaked to the press, was attacked by detainees.
This childless single man, born under X and adopted at the age of three months, had been studying BTS in international business since his release from prison.
During the investigation, he refused psychological and psychiatric expertise. Those carried out during the Toulouse procedure concluded that there was no mental pathology, relating to “narcissistic traits”, with a “lack of empathy for the victims” and “aggressive affects”.
The accused changed lawyers several times and, according to the most recent one, no longer had one a few days before the hearing.
