At home in Monza, in front of its fans who came in large numbers, Scuderia Ferrari experienced an absolutely nightmarish Italian Grand Prix. Lewis Hamilton finished the race, won by Mercedes Italian Kimi Antonelli, in a modest sixth place. As for Charles Leclerc, he was the victim of a spectacular accident on the third lap.
However, the problems started much earlier. From the second corner, to be exact. Starting in third position on the grid, Charles Leclerc found himself under pressure from his teammate. He managed to keep his place by pushing the Briton towards the outside, forcing him to brake suddenly. Consequence of this maneuver: Lewis Hamilton fell to tenth place and then spent his race trying to climb back up the rankings, on a circuit where overtaking is difficult.
“There are no rules here”
After the race, Lewis Hamilton got annoyed. “I think it all comes down to the rules of engagement,” explained the seven-time world champion. Here (editor’s note: at Ferrari)there are no rules. This needs to be remedied.”
The Briton compared the situation with his years at Mercedes, where his rivalry with Nico Rosberg was better regulated. “When I was at Mercedes we had written rules of engagement. We never really had any problems. There were a few tense moments between Nico Rosberg and I, but for the most part it went well.”
Tensions had already broken out between the two Scuderia drivers after the Dutch GP on August 23. A discussion lasting more than an hour followed. Obviously, this was not enough to calm the situation.
