Music legend Lionel Richie, 77, was admitted to the intensive care unit following a concert Saturday night at the Muny in St. Louis’ Forest Park. According to TMZ, this hospitalization could be linked to a case of dehydration.
Although the artist hopes to be able to leave the establishment this Tuesday, this event arouses great concern since it is the second health incident he has faced during this summer.
Uneasiness on stage in Saint-Louis
Witnesses at Saturday’s show reported that the singer, a four-time Grammy Award winner, appeared weakened toward the end of his performance. During his famous song “All Night Long,” the singer had to ask his teams for a chair so he could sit down to finish the show.
Immediately after the concert, Lionel Richie went to a local hospital to undergo medical examinations. Currently under surveillance in intensive care, he is being checked to confirm the hypothesis of dehydration. For the moment, neither the artist nor his representatives have spoken publicly.
Fragile health this summer
This new alert comes only a few months after a first incident that occurred last June. At the kickoff of his 26-date North American tour in collaboration with the group Earth, Wind & Fire, in Minnesota, the concert had to be abruptly interrupted.
While performing “Dancing on the Ceiling,” the star, feeling “weird,” had to sit down, telling the audience: “If you feel dizzy, sit down.” After leaving the stage, his musicians continued to play for a quarter of an hour before saxophonist Dino Soldo took the floor to announce the premature end of the show. Supported by paramedics behind the scenes, he was transported to a clinic.
This incident led to the postponement of two performances planned in Chicago and Columbus, Ohio, by medical decision. Shortly after, the juror of the show “American Idol” reassured his community on Instagram by affirming that everything was fine and thanking him for the messages of support.
