The consequences could have been dramatic for certain people who recently had heart implants. American medical device manufacturer Boston Scientific announced that it was the victim of a cyberattack on August 25. The incident disrupts the activation of remote monitoring of certain new pacemakers of the brand.
But no danger for patients. Affected implants continue to function normally. Boston Scientific ensures that the quality of its products is not impaired. The issue concerns new activations of the LATITUDE tracking service. Doctors must therefore temporarily recover patient data during face-to-face consultations.
Only internal infrastructures affected
In a press release published on Saturday, the company said it was continuing to evaluate the incident. She claims to have not detected any unauthorized activity in her environment since the day of the intrusion. The threat was reportedly contained, security measures strengthened and systems restored securely.
According to the analyzes carried out so far, with the support in particular of CrowdStrike and other external cybersecurity experts, the attack would have been limited to certain internal infrastructures. Boston Scientific does not report any malfunction of devices already implanted, other than the disruption of new remote monitoring activations.
