A Japanese man was arrested for the massacre of 30 hamsters in a hotel, a few weeks after having already been detained for the same act on 20 other animals, Japanese police announced on Tuesday.
This employee of a high school in the north of the archipelago took advantage of the complicity of two women to massacre rodents in “love hotels” – short-term establishments intended for couples, the police told AFP.
The suspect’s arrest on Monday concerns the “wanton killings” of around 30 hamsters at the end of March, committed with the help of a 20-year-old woman, Hiroyuki Nasu, police chief in the town of Miyako (northern Japan), told AFP.

The suspect’s phone, seized by police, contained videos of the killings, as well as exchanges of messages with the young woman showing that they were preparing the act. “Where are we going to kill hamsters and have fun?” the police official read in reference to one of the messages exchanged.
The suspect was first detained in July for a separate massacre, which occurred in February, of around 20 hamsters with the complicity of a 19-year-old young woman.
The police, who also arrested the two women, will continue their investigation to find out if the man could have committed other similar acts, added the police official.
