Last Friday in the Dominican Republic, a British journalist approached Gianni Infantino, asking him questions about the crisis shaking FIFA. In response, he was only allowed two jokes about their shared baldness. A sequence that has since gone viral.
The FIFA president was originally invited by the Dominican football federation for a youth tournament. But Victor Montagliani, president of Concacaf (Central and North America) finally asked him to renounce his presence so that the current debates did not take precedence over the event.
Regardless, the Italian-Swiss was in the country and he was approached by Sky Sports reporter James Matthews. The world football boss appeared at first not to have realized who he was dealing with, shaking his hand and posing for a quick selfie. But he quickly understood.
“Have you betrayed football?” the journalist asked him several times, reports RMC Sports. Adding: “why don’t you resign?”
“Meet at the hairdresser”
Response from the FIFA president? “You have a nice haircut,” he retorts, before rushing into a car. Then, while the journalist is still trying to get a reaction on the situation, he calls out again: “Meet me at the hairdresser.”
Infantino’s dodge made James Matthews smile, notes HuffPostwho however believes that the sequence “veered into ridicule”. Still, the British journalist wanted answers above all.
“What I wanted to hear was a real interrogation of Gianni Infantino on his intentions, particularly when he tried, a few weeks ago, to bring private financial interests into the world of football,” he stressed.
