Sara Netanyahu, the wife of the Israeli Prime Minister, suggested that an opposition leader had been aware of the planned attack on October 7, 2023, a few weeks before the legislative elections which promise to be particularly close.
During an interview broadcast Monday evening on channel 14 close to the government, Ms. Netanyahu attacked Yair Golan, an army general who leads the “Democrats” party, a left-wing formation opposed to the coalition led by her husband.
Mr. Golan was “already dressed and ready” at dawn on October 7, 2023, “while others knew nothing, including the prime minister,” she said.
These comments sparked an outcry from the opposition. Mr. Golan’s party strongly condemned “vile and misleading” comments on his X account.

“The dissemination of conspiracy theories against General Yaïr Golan and the defamation of his heroism on October 7 crosses a red line that borders on madness,” added the movement.

These accusations echo recurring conspiracy theories within part of the political class.
According to a poll carried out for Channel 13 in August, 40% of Israelis and 63% of voters in the current coalition believe that internal betrayal led to the massacre of October 7, 2023.
The unprecedented attack by the Palestinian armed group Hamas against Israel left 1,221 dead, the majority civilians, according to an AFP count. Hamas also kidnapped 251 people, taken to Gaza.
The offensive launched in retaliation by Israel in the Gaza Strip left more than 73,000 dead, according to the Ministry of Health of the Palestinian territory, placed under the authority of Hamas and whose figures are considered reliable by the UN.
A tenuous ceasefire has been in effect since October 2025.
