Quadruple Dutch Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen will challenge 100 drivers in a unique karting race at Silverstone on September 16, Disney+ and ESPN announced on Tuesday, which will broadcast the event.
The organizers promise “one of the biggest karting races ever organized” in a “new format that combines high-level competition, entertainment and innovation”.
“Always a pleasure to come back”
Among Verstappen’s 100 opponents who will start last are athletes sponsored by Red Bull, streamers and other “content creators, personalities and fans recruited from around the world”, according to the press release.
“Mad Max” cut his teeth as a child in karting before winning in the premier category (2021, 2022, 2023, 2024).
“In karting, you learn all the basics: starts, defense, overtaking. I spent a large part of my life doing karting, so it’s always a pleasure to come back to it,” said the 28-year-old Dutchman, who last week extended his contract with the Red Bull team until the end of the 2030 season.
