Seventeen years after his disappearance, Mozart found his owner. Elisabeth-Sophie Stevens lost track of her cat in 2009, while she was studying in Bordeaux. It was thanks to the gigantic fires which ravaged 42,000 hectares in Gironde that their paths ended up crossing again. The animal was discovered in Lège-Cap-Ferret by a volunteer from an association who came to rescue domestic animals left behind after the evacuation of their owners.
As Mozart was chipped, the volunteer, Sandrine Clarens, was able to find the contact details of Elisabeth-Sophie Stevens. When she received her call, she first thought it was about Gandhi, the cat who now shares her life in Dijon. It took a photo for her to understand the incredible: the animal found was indeed Mozart, the companion she had lost seventeen years previously.
“I recognized him straight away,” Elizabeth told “Sud Ouest”. For her part, Sandrine, also interviewed by the regional daily, is incredulous. “I couldn’t believe my ears when, on the other end of the line, the woman told me that she hadn’t seen her cat for seventeen years: it was worthy of the “Guinness Book of Records”!”
The old cat, now 18 years old, is doing quite well despite his old age, the newspaper specifies. He is temporarily housed in the shelter set up by Sandrine in her house in Floirac, east of Bordeaux, while waiting to find his mistress at the end of August in Dijon.
