Although highly anticipated, Teddy Riner will unfortunately not fight at the Grand Slam in Lausanne scheduled for August 28 to 30. The Frenchman announced his withdrawal on Instagram on Wednesday due to a shoulder injury, two months before the World Championships in Baku. He will still be present as a spectator.
After examinations on his shoulder, operated on in 2013, his medical team recommended that he follow three weeks of specific strengthening. The judoka explains that he wants to continue his preparation without taking any unnecessary risks.
Teddy Riner had already given up on the Lima tournament, scheduled for mid-August, after being injured in training. He did not indicate whether this injury called into question his participation in the Worlds.
The Frenchman has not competed in an individual competition since the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, where he won his third individual Olympic title as well as a second team coronation.
