The Kazakstan Elena Rybakina, 2nd in the world and winner of the Australian Open in January, beat the American Coco Gauff (4th) on Wednesday in the semi-finals of the WTA 1000 in Toronto 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 and will face Iga Swiatek (8th) to try to win her third title this season.
After having already had to overcome the loss of the first set in the quarterfinals against Naomi Osaka, Rybakina, who is getting closer to the world No.1 place held by Aryna Sabalenka, once again had to make such a handicap against Gauff before clearly dominating her.
At 27, Rybakina has 13 titles, including two Grand Slams (Wimbledon 2022, Australia 2026) as well as two WTA 1000s (Indian Wells and Rome in 2023). She also won the end-of-year Masters in 2025.
