After seven years of total abstinence, Brad Pitt has revealed that he has started drinking alcohol again. It was in the pages of “Esquire” magazine that the 62-year-old American actor chose to break the silence, confiding bluntly: “I remained sober for seven years. And then I dove again.”
This time, the Hollywood star claims to approach the situation with a new maturity. If he admits to having sometimes “sinned with overconfidence”, he assures that he now consumes “with more restraint”.
Owner of the prestigious Miraval wine estate in the Var, he allows himself a few glasses of white or rosé wine, while imposing strict limits on himself: “Not in large quantities. I have to stay professional.”
Alcohol and Brad Pitt are quite a story. In 2016, the year of his separation from Angelina Jolie, the actor had sunk to the point of having to seek help from Alcoholics Anonymous. A dark period during which he confides that he even briefly went through suicidal thoughts, narrowly saved by his “survival instinct”.
Beyond addiction, this controlled relapse highlights the cracks that never really heal from a destructive divorce. Accused by his ex-wife of physical and verbal violence committed in 2016 during a private jet flight – accusations which pushed his adopted and biological children to abandon the name “Pitt” – the actor is now trying to make amends.
