Fernando Alonso does not yet intend to turn the page on Formula 1. At 45, the double Spanish world champion would consider continuing the adventure with Aston Martin beyond the 2026 season, but at particularly high financial conditions.
According to F1 economic expert Marc Limacher, quoted by Spanish radio Cadena Cope, Alonso would demand 40 million dollars per season, or around 32 million francs, to extend his contract until the end of 2028.
Such remuneration would therefore represent a commitment of 80 million dollars (around 65 million Swiss francs) over two years, and would place Fernando Alonso among the highest paid drivers in the paddock.
The native of Oviedo would equal Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) in third place in this salary hierarchy, behind Max Verstappen (Red Bull) and Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari) who would receive respectively 70 and 60 million annual dollars (57 and 49 million Swiss francs).
Arriving at Aston Martin in 2023, the record holder for the number of races in F1 would currently receive 30 million dollars (24 million Swiss francs) per season. His contract would have been designed progressively, after a salary estimated at 20 million dollars (16 million Swiss francs) during his first year with the British team.
But the financial aspect would not be the only requirement of the Spanish veteran. Still according to Cadena Cope, Fernando Alonso would especially like to have a car capable of regularly playing the leading roles. With a global calendar expected to include 24 Grands Prix in 2027, it requires from Aston Martin a car competitive enough to remain efficient throughout the season.
