We hoped that Lara Gut-Behrami would return for one last lap, despite her serious knee injury last November. But the 35-year-old from Ticino said stop and ended her career.
Lara Gut-Behrami took the time necessary for her rehabilitation, but, listening to her body, she finally decided to put an end to her career, explains the RSI.
“After careful consideration, I have come to the conclusion that I no longer wish to return to competition,” declared the Ticino, according to “20 minutesn”.
Over the course of her career as a champion, Lara Gut-Behrami has built one of the finest records in Swiss skiing and skiing in general. She has won 48 times in the World Cup (24 super-G, 13 downhills, 10 giants, 1 combined). She has two Big Globes in her trophy cabinet (2015-2016 and 2023-2024) and seven Small Globes. The athlete also has three Olympic medals (one gold, two bronze) and nine won at World Championships (2 gold, 4 silver, 3 bronze).
“I have the chance and the happiness to be able to choose. Despite nearly twenty years of high-level sport, despite falls and injuries, I do not suffer from any recurring pain and I do not want to suffer from it,” explains the skier in a long letter published by the RSI.
The Ticino woman therefore says that the time to listen to your body and “no longer try to push your limits at all costs” has come.
“I believe that there is a time for everything in life, and I now know that it is no longer my turn to put on a bib and compete,” she concludes. “I can’t wait to ski again, and I’m happy with this decision.”
