“Timmy,” the beached whale several weeks in Germany before being found dead in Denmark, was moved this weekend near the place where she got stuck, to be autopsied, the Danish environmental protection agency said on Saturday. “The whale is being moved” to the shore of the island of Anholt, the Danish environmental protection agency told AFP. According to the German newspaper “Bild”, the trip took place on Saturday morning.
It was initially planned that the mammal would be moved to Grenaa, in the eastern part of metropolitan Denmark. But the weather conditions as well as the state of decomposition of the animal did not allow this, the agency clarified during the week. “The necropsy, scientific examinations and subsequent management of the whale are expected to take place towards the end of next week,” she wrote in a statement on Thursday.
The journey of the mammal, whose death was confirmed on May 16, had kept Germany in suspense for several weeks, the media flocking to the Baltic coast to follow the various interventions.
