Spain-Argentina: the greatest final in history

- Jackson Avery

Remember. On March 27, 2026, Spain and Argentina should have faced each other in Qatar, as part of the Finalissima, the competition relaunched by FIFA in 2022 and which pits the winners of the Euro and the Copa America against each other. A match to define who is the best selection on the planet while waiting for the World Cup (and to fill FIFA’s pockets a little further). In the spring, the clash was canceled due to the war in Iran.

It was only a postponement. Spain and Argentina have made an appointment for a much more glorious event this Sunday (9 p.m.): the World Cup final. And it’s an understatement to say that this opposition is exciting. It’s impossible to think of anything else since Wednesday evening as this game promises to be exceptional in many respects.

First of all, this is a completely new poster in a World Cup final phase. And only the second official meeting between the two teams after a group match at the 1966 World Cup.

How not to mention, then, the distant duel between Lionel Messi and his “successor” Lamine Yamal. The shared history of the two men seems surreal since the Argentinian gave the Spaniard a bath when he was only a few months old.

The best team in the world vs the best player in the world

There is also the opposition of style which is enticing. On the one hand, Spain with the best collective in the world where no individuality stands out more than another. On the other, the best player in the world, Lionel Messi, who relies on a collective entirely dedicated to him.

However, what makes you want to follow this duel even more is this clash of the titans between two almost unbeatable selections. Spain is the reigning European champion. Argentina has won every tournament it has participated in since 2021.

Such a scenario has never happened. It is therefore a real Finalissima, and not one artificially created by FIFA, to determine the best team in the world and the dominant continent of the football planet.

Football fans, enjoy this final. Because it is the greatest in history and the winner will be an exceptional world champion!
