Spanish players had assured that they would have Luis de la Fuente’s face tattooed in the event of a coronation and the coach reminded them with humor, after the 2026 World Cup final won (1-0 in overtime) against Argentina on Sunday.
Before the North American World Cup, defender Marc Cucurella notably made such a promise, simply saying he had to “think about the location”.
“They made a mistake. As they are men of their word, serious people, they will keep their promise,” smiled the coach in his post-match conference. “I’m not that horrible either, that they do it in a place that is not very visible,” he added.
He won’t do any. “I’m too old for tattoos,” said the 65-year-old coach.
Since its induction at the end of 2022, Spain has won the Nations League in 2023, the Euro in 2024 and the World Cup in 2026, after a final won 1-0 in overtime against Argentina on Sunday in East Rutherford near New York.
