13-year-old dies during world title celebrations

A 13-year-old boy died in Ciudad Rodrigo, in western Spain, on the night of Sunday to Monday during the celebrations of the national football team’s victory in the World Cup final, the city’s town hall announced.

“The City Hall of Ciudad Rodrigo expresses its pain and presents its condolences for the death of the 13-year-old boy (…) What should have been a celebration of the victory of the Spanish team at the Football World Cup has turned into a tragedy,” the municipality published on its Facebook page, wishing good recovery “to the other injured.”

According to Spanish media, the young man died in the collapse of a fountain on which several spectators were standing.
