France Télévisions journalist Émilie Tran Nguyen was taken into police custody in mid-June in Paris for “use of narcotics”. At 41, the journalist presented the Sunday magazine “En société” and regularly appeared on the show “C à vous” on France 5.
According to legal sources obtained by “Le Figaro”, the journalist was arrested in flagrante delicto in Paris by a plainclothes police officer, during a purchase of cocaine.
At the end of her custody, she was given a summons for the notification of a criminal order.
The impact on her career was immediate since she was removed from the air by her employers. During the last broadcast of “En société” on June 21, the journalist was absent. Her replacement, Thomas Snégaroff, then mentioned an absence for health reasons, explaining on air that she was “suffering”.
On July 8, the management of France Télévisions justified the end of its two meetings for purely editorial and budgetary reasons.
Philippe Corbé, information director of the group, had mentioned a restructuring of the Sunday evening offering in a “context of savings”, without making any mention of the presenter’s legal setbacks.
France Télévisions is currently refusing to make any additional comments on this matter.
