MotoGP World Championship leader Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia) will not participate in the Czech Republic Grand Prix scheduled for Sunday in Brno for hitting a track marshal on Saturday, race management announced.
The notification of the sanction addressed to the Italian explains that “after an accident, you pushed and hit track marshals who were trying to lift your motorcycle”. Such an attitude is detrimental to the interests of sport, according to the document which specifies that the Aprilia team has the right to appeal.
Bezzecchi crashed Saturday afternoon during the sprint race alone in a corner, two laps from the finish while he was in fifth place. According to images shared by a broadcaster, he hit twice in the face a steward who had his hands on the handlebars of his motorcycle on his side.
The Italian, in search of a first world title, is 15 points ahead of his runner-up and teammate, Jorge Martin, who will overtake him if he finishes on the podium on Sunday.
