Prince Harry, youngest son of King Charles III, will visit the United Kingdom in July with his wife Meghan and their two children, Archie and Lilibet, a first family visit in four years, British media reported on Wednesday.
The couple, who have lived in California since 2020 after their shattering break with the royal family, planned this trip as part of the preparations for the Invictus Games which are to be held in 2027 in Birmingham (central England), according to several media including the BBC.
The Invictus Games were created under the patronage of Prince Harry for injured or ill veterans from around 25 countries.
Contacted by AFP, Prince Harry’s representative did not immediately respond.
The security arrangements surrounding this visit are not yet known. The Interior Ministry assesses the prince’s need for protection on a case-by-case basis when he comes to the country, as he is no longer an active member of the royal family.
It is also unclear whether King Charles will meet his grandchildren. He last saw them during Queen Elizabeth II’s platinum jubilee celebrations in 2022.
Show your children your homeland
Prince Harry, 41, has returned to the United Kingdom several times.
He was in London in January to give evidence in the lawsuit he and others brought against the publishing company of the Daily Mail and the Mail on Sunday.
In a long interview with the BBC in May 2025, he expressed his desire for “reconciliation” with his family, saying he was “really sad not to be able to show (his) homeland to (his) children”.
Harry published his explosive memoir, “Spare” (“The Substitute”) in January 2023, in which he increased attacks on the royal family and aired their quarrels in front of the whole world.
Despite the estrangement, Harry jumped on a plane to the United Kingdom in February 2024 upon learning that his father was suffering from cancer. Last September, he had a brief interview with Charles III at his London residence at Clarence House.
However, during his four-day state visit to the United States in May, the king did not meet his youngest son.
Harry, also known as the Duke of Sussex, has on the other hand had no known recent interactions with his brother William, heir to the crown, who no longer speaks to him.
