British actor Anthony Head, famous for his iconic roles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and more recently Ted Lasso, has died at the age of 72. The sad news was announced by his daughters, actresses Emily and Daisy Head, who indicated that their father had died peacefully following complications linked to pneumonia, surrounded by his loved ones.
This disappearance comes only a few months after that of his wife, Sarah Fisher, with whom he had shared his life for many years. In March, another emblematic actor of the series, Nicholas Brendon, also disappeared.
Farewell Rupert Giles…
In an emotional statement, his daughters hailed “an extraordinary father” and paid tribute to an exceptional career that spanned several decades. They also highlighted the lasting impact of his work on generations of viewers and fans around the world.
Born in Camden, London, Anthony Head came from a family of artists. Son of documentary filmmaker Seafield Head and actress Helen Shingler, he discovered his passion for the stage very early. From the age of six, he participated in a performance of The Emperor and His New Clothes, an experience which made him understand that he would devote his life to the profession of actor.
Anthony Head will forever be associated with the character of Rupert Giles, Buffy Summers’ mentor in the cult series from the 1990s. More recently, he won over a new generation of spectators thanks to his role in Ted Lasso. With his passing, British television loses one of its best-loved and most talented faces.
