Footballer David Beckham will have his star on the famous “Walk of Fame” on Hollywood Boulevard, during a ceremony to be organized on June 12, in the middle of the World Cup in North America, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce announced Tuesday.

Actor Tom Cruise and Victoria Beckham, former Spice Girl and wife of the legendary ex-Manchester United player, will speak at the ceremony in Los Angeles.

“Beckham’s role in the rise of soccer’s popularity in the United States and his lasting influence in sports, entertainment and global culture make this tribute particularly meaningful,” ceremony producer Ana Martinez said in a statement.

The ceremony will take place on the same day as the United States’ first match in Los Angeles for the 2026 World Cup, which the country is hosting jointly with Mexico and Canada.

Knighted by King Charles III last year, David Beckham occupies a central place in the pantheon of British football.

Captain of the English team for six years, he left his mark on the history of Manchester United, the club with which he won the Champions League in 1999.

During the rest of his career, he wore the jersey of Real Madrid and AC Milan, before attempting an American adventure with the LA Galaxy, the Los Angeles club, then spending a year at Paris Saint-Germain, where he hung up his boots in 2013.

Now aged 51, the ex-footballer is co-owner of Inter Miami CF, a club which recruited Argentinian Lionel Messi in 2023 and won the American championship last year.

A global football star, but also a businessman and fashion muse, the Briton was the subject of a documentary series, released in 2023 on Netflix and produced by his own production company, Studio 99.
