FC Barcelona prodigy Lamine Yamal was injured on Wednesday while scoring a penalty during the La Liga match against Celta Vigo, a serious alert for the Catalan club and for the Spanish selection, 50 days before the start of the World Cup.
The Barça and La Roja star immediately returned to the locker room, visibly injured in the left thigh while taking the penalty which had just given his team the advantage (40th, 1-0).
The 18-year-old winger, hampered in the first part of the season by pubalgia, went to the ground directly after scoring and called for a change as a precaution.
He was replaced by the young Swede Roony Bardghji, while the match was stopped due to a medical emergency in the stands.
In the event of a muscle injury, even slight, Yamal could miss the end of the season with his club, currently leader of La Liga, in particular the Clasico on May 10 against Real Madrid.
A more serious injury could transform the coming weeks into a race against time for the young Spaniard, 50 days before the opening of the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico, where La Roja, reigning European champion, will be one of the favorites.
