Young Italian pilot fights for his life after accident

A serious accident occurred on Saturday during a round of the Italian speed championship at Mugello in the SportBike category. Member of the Chiodo Moto Racing team, the Transalpine Paolo Conte (21 years old) was the victim at the end of the race and his vital prognosis is still guarded.

The impact was so violent that the race management immediately waved the red flag to interrupt the competition to allow rapid emergency intervention.

Captured by the circuit’s cameras, the images show a spectacular fall and the immediate mobilization of the marshals. Stabilized and intubated on the runway, the young pilot was transported by helicopter to the Careggi hospital in Florence.

Doctors diagnosed severe head trauma. Paolo Conte remains in intensive care in a condition considered critical.
