Five myths on the harvest … and what is really true

- Jackson Avery

Myth 1: Harvesting is purely manual work

Partly true. In steep vineyards or for delicate grape varieties, the harvest is done by hand, while in more flat plots, machines are used.

Myth n ° 2: The grapes can be consumed immediately after the harvest

The freshly harvested grapes are certainly sweet, but before becoming wine, they must ferment and mature. Only grape juice can be consumed immediately.

Myth n ° 3: the latest the harvest, the better the wine is

Not necessarily. The sugar content certainly increases, but acidity and freshness can be lost. Each grape variety has its optimal moment.

Myth n ° 4: Only professionals can help harvest

Many winegrowers are delighted to welcome volunteers, whether beginners or experienced. The work is explained and it is easier to do it as a team.

Myth n ° 5: After the harvest, everything is finished

Fake. It is in the cellar that the main work begins: fermentation, breeding, maintenance. At the same time, the vines are already prepared for the next vintage.

Forget myths and come and live the harvest!

The best is to live the harvest yourself. This is exactly what the “at the heart of the harvest” event allows: you can get your hands dirty, feel closely the fascination of the harvest and understand why this moment of the year is so special.
