Frederick Man to Serve 9 Years in Prison for Attempted 2nd Degree Rape and Sex Abuse of a Minor

On February 14, 2023, a Frederick Police Department detective responded to a delayed report of sexual abuse. Through investigation and a forensic interview at the Child Advocacy Center, it was learned that 26-year-old Jose Nelson Guerra-Sanchez had sexually abused a 14-year-old victim when he was 23 years old.

In Frederick County Circuit Court on June 3rd, Judge Richard Sandy sentenced Guerra-Sanchez to 25 years in the Department of Corrections, suspending all but 9 years, for the sex abuse of a minor. The Defendant was previously convicted on April 9, 2024 after a bench trial in front of the Honorable Richard Sandy.

Upon his release, Guerra-Sanchez will serve 5 years of supervised probation through COMET supervision. He will have no contact with the victim or other minors, and must submit to a psychosexual evaluation and follow all recommendations. Additionally, he will be required to register as a sex offender for life and be subject to lifetime sex offender supervision.
