On January 26th, Mount Airy Police Department arrested two individuals on charges of motor vehicle theft as well as other offenses. Here are details released to the public:
MOTOR VEHICLE THEFT ARREST // E/B I70 @ HOWARD COUNTY LINE // FRIDAY JANUARY 26 2024
On January 26th a Mount Airy Police Department (MAPD) officer was traveling on Interstate 70 and observed a motor vehicle commit several traffic infractions. A check of the vehicle registration showed the vehicle was unregistered. MAPD officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. The MAPD officer contacted the driver and occupants of the vehicle identified as JAMIL NICHOLAS GARDNER, JAILIN KAHRI OPHER and a third passenger. During the stop, the investigation revealed that the vehicle was reported stolen out of Virginia.
Both GARDNER and OPHER were placed under arrest and transported to the Carroll County Detention Center for processing. The third occupant was released on scene.
Charges against JAMIL NICHOLAS GARDNER include:
- MOTOR VEH/UNLAWFUL TAKING
- THEFT $25,000 TO UNDER $100,000
- ROGUE AND VAGABOND
- ATTACHING UNAUTHORIZED VEH. REG. PLATE WITH INTENT TO CONCEAL MISREPRESENT VEH OWNER ID
- FALSIFYING/ATTEMPTING TO FALSIFY WITH FRAUDULENT INTENT OFFICIAL DOCUMENT/PLATE ISSUED BY THE ADMIN
Charges against JAILIN KAHRI OPHER include:
- MOTOR VEH/UNLAWFUL TAKING
- THEFT $25,000 TO UNDER $100,000
- ROGUE AND VAGABOND
