STATE HIGHWAY ADMINISTRATION TO LOWER SPEED LIMIT ON MD 140 IN CARROLL COUNTY

Speed Limit Changes to 45 Miles Per Hour on One-Mile Section of Roadway

The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration is lowering the speed limit on MD 140 (Baltimore Boulevard) between Market Street/Old Baltimore Road and east of the Motor Vehicle Administration in Westminster this week from 50 miles per hour to 45 miles per hour.

“We listened to concerns about the speed limit and the impact on road operations, and launched a traffic engineering study to take a closer look at this area,” said District Engineer Andrew Radcliffe Jr. “The results found that a lower speed will better align with the road design, driver behavior and existing speeds on other sections of MD 140.”

This section of MD 140 features four travel lanes on a divided highway with additional lanes to safely make turns into businesses and access both eastbound and westbound directions. The Westminster Shop will install new signs later this week.
