Carroll Lutheran Village recently completed its first major renovation to one of its resident apartment buildings – one of several multi-year renewal projects. Other projects include:
- Updating two other apartment buildings – Avondale Place and Weller apartments
- Recently adding 400 solar panels – saving the community $60,000 to $70,000 a year
- Installing LED lighting and other energy-efficient features

Major Project to Modernize Senior Living Completed
Westminster, MD – Carroll Lutheran Village residents, team members, board of directors and guests recently gathered in the nearly standing-room-only club room of Windsor Terrace to celebrate the apartment building’s grand reveal. Among several multi-year renewal projects, the formerly known 201 building is the first completed major renovation to the continuing care retirement community’s (i.e. life plan community) apartment buildings.
Sleek modern furniture provides purpose and beauty in open-concept gathering spots, which provide easy access and comfort for residents to socialize and participate in the community’s daily activities. New artwork, from Westminster’s Gizmos Art, adorns freshly painted contemporary colored walls. Lighting is brighter with the installation of LED lighting and additional windows, and a new HVAC system provides residents with greater heating and cooling control in their apartment.
“I think our focus on continuous improvement, so our community and residents continue thriving, is one of many reasons why CLV has been voted Carroll’s Best for ten consecutive years,” said Pete Bolt, executive director.
This commitment is also apparent from other projects in the community’s multi-year renewal initiatives. Similar renovations in the Avondale Place apartment building have started. The Weller apartment building was updated last year with new artwork, paint and carpeting in common areas.
Wanting to conserve and preserve the natural beauty that surrounds the community, for current and future residents to enjoy for years to come, LED lighting and other energy-efficient features were added last year, and 400 solar panels were recently installed, saving the community $60,000 to $70,000 per year in electricity costs.
“For a long time, I have been a proponent of the use of accessible, clean and renewable energy sources for generating electricity. Such sources as solar collector systems provide a win-win solution. I am excited to see CLV add solar energy,” said Ross Menchey, CLV resident.
These projects are all part of the vision Lutheran Social Ministries of Maryland President and CEO Jeff Branch’s share three years ago when joining the organization that manages CLV and its sister community. Reinvestment through renewal helps CLV to thrive and further its strong reputation in the senior living industry while continuing to serve older adults in the Lutheran tradition of social ministry and service.
