“Suspect arrested for possession/distribution of child pornography”
Westminster, Carroll County, Maryland; April 5, 2023 —- Deputies arrested a Carroll County man on Tuesday, April 4th, 2023, after a Maryland Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force investigation developed evidence of possession and distribution of child pornography.
The suspect is identified as Dane Lee Brodie, 19, of Westminster, Maryland. Brodie is charged with nine counts of possession of child pornography and nine counts of distribution of child pornography. Brodie was transported to the Carroll County Detention Center, where he is currently being held without bond after his initial appearance with the Commissioner.
Beginning in October 2022, the Carroll County Advocacy and Investigation Center initiated an investigation into the possession/distribution of child pornography online after receiving a NCMEC Cybertip. According to a preliminary investigation, investigators obtained media files of child pornography that were uploaded to a cross platform messaging application. Further investigations led to the identification of the suspect in Carroll County.
On Tuesday, members of the Carroll County Advocacy and Investigation Center assisted by members of the Maryland State Police Digital Forensics Laboratory, served a search and seizure warrant at Brodie’s residence. Brodie was arrested at the scene.
The Carroll County Advocacy and Investigation Center coordinates with the Maryland Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. This is a combined law enforcement effort involving police departments across Maryland that is made possible in part due to grant funds provided by the Governor’s Office of Crime Prevention, Youth and Victim Services and by a federal grant from the U.S. Department of Justice. Task force investigators focus on identifying those involved in child pornography via the Internet and other related crimes that victimize children.
