Death of Loana: “We are all a little responsible”

Benjamin Castaldi, historic host of “Loft Story” in 2001 on M6, paid a moving tribute to Loana, found lifeless on Wednesday at her home in Nice.

The presenter, visibly very moved by the premature death of the former winner of “Loft Story”, published a beautiful text on his social networks: “There are faces that we never forget. And his, that of Loana, is part of our collective history. We thought we were watching a show. In reality, we were witnessing a revolution. The first. The real one. The one that forever changed television… and perhaps also our outlook on humanity.”

“Loana was not a character. She was a woman. A real one. With its cracks, its softness, its fragility in the open. And that’s precisely why we loved it,” continues Benjamin Castaldi.

“But that’s also why we let her down. We applauded his light… without protecting his shadow. We consumed her authenticity… without measuring the price she was going to pay. We watched her live, love, fall… without ever really wondering who would pick her up afterwards. The truth is that we are all somewhat responsible. Because we all watched. Because we all commented. Because we have all, at one point, looked away when things got too hard,” adds the host.

And Benjamin Castaldi concludes: “She embodied a raw innocence in a world that forgives nothing. And we weren’t able to live up to what she gave us. Today, it remains more than a television memory. There remains an emotion. An embarrassment. A regret. That of not having been human enough in the face of someone who was deeply human. So yes… We experienced a revolution together. But perhaps we forgot, along the way, the essential: behind the phenomenon… there was a woman.”
