After Indian Wells, world No.2 Jannik Sinner achieved the “Sunshine double” by winning the Masters 1000 in Miami (Florida, United States) on Sunday for the second time.
Sinner dominated the Czech Jiri Lehecka 6-4, 6-4 after a match delayed and then interrupted for 1h30 by rain.
The 24-year-old Italian is the first player on the ATP circuit to achieve the “Sunshine double” since Roger Federer in 2017, but above all he is the first to do it without losing a single set during the two tournaments.
The former world No.1 thus won his 7th Masters 1000 title, the third in a row after Paris at the end of 2025 and therefore Indian Wells two weeks ago, and remains on a series of 34 sets won in tournaments of this caliber.
The rain which fell on the Florida city delayed the start of the match before interrupting it for around 1h30 at the very start of the second set.
Nothing to disturb Sinner, who continued to dominate the match, even if he missed a few opportunities to win more quickly (two successful breaks on eleven occasions).
Jiri Lehecka (22nd in the world) played his first final at a tournament of this level at the age of 24, hoping to succeed his compatriot Jakub Mensik on the list.
Despite the defeat, his excellent tournament will allow him to reach 14th place in the world on Monday, his record.
